Target Salmon and Steelhead with Captain Terry During the Prime Evening Bite—Book Your Trip Today!
Lake Michigan - Mason, MI
Fishing Conditions & Outlook As of late January 2026, the Whitehall area is firmly in winter mode. While Net Results Sportfishing and Captain Terry Armstrong typically dominate the open water from May through September on their 31-foot sportfisherman "Fish Story," the local bite has shifted toward ice fishing and river opportunities.
Ice Fishing (White Lake): Reports indicate that ice conditions are generally in good shape across Michigan. Anglers on White Lake are currently finding a steady Yellow Perch bite. Use minnows or emerald shiners on small jigs to target fish in the 8–11 inch range.
Lake Michigan Tributaries: For those seeking larger game, the Steelhead and Brown Trout action remains consistent in the rivers. Mid-day to early afternoon, when the water temperature peaks slightly, has been the most productive window. Floating beads or spawn bags are the top choice for river Steelhead right now.
Target Species:
White Lake: Yellow Perch, Walleye (dawn/dusk), Northern Pike.
Lake Michigan (Offshore/River Mouths): Steelhead, Brown Trout.
Captain's Tip: In the winter months, many deepwater species like Lake Trout move into shallower waters. While the big boat is docked for the season, the local pier and river mouth fishing can still be very productive for those willing to braving the cold.
